Okay, so I've had my second classes in Latin, Physics, and Anatomy. Latin's about the same. On the other two there's good news and bad news. The good news is that our Physics teacher is less boring and rambly when he's actually teaching, as opposed to telling us about what he's going to teach. The bad news is that our Anatomy teacher, in addition to putting the powerpoint presentation for the day on the hard to access, new system that hasn't gotten rid of all the bugs yet, and in addition to then running the powerpoint when the room lights were up, so we couldn't see it well, has made reference to Intelligent Design in class. And with an air of approval, stating that while the book teaches Darwin, she will not test on evolution because there's another explanation out there. I came back from that class and ranted at my roomate, who is also doing Biology as a major. This is a teacher of a science course, more specifically, a biology course, and evolution is the central theory of biology. WTF? Okay, rant over.

And now for the squeeage.

Okay, Stargate.  I liked this episode.  Good interaction, lots of Teal'c, explanation of what exactly is going on with the whole Jaffa Nation thing.  Well done.  And did anyone else catch the reference Sam made, saying that she was not exactly available?  We didn't hear any more, but I'm thinking that at least hints at some S/J.  And for those for whom it's not their thing, it's discreet enough for them to ignore it.  Everyone's happy.  Except for Teal'c, who has just had Garak upstage him in front of the entire High Council.  I even liked Mitchell in this episode.  He's so happy to give everyone those patches, and I'm finally seeing his personality.  For those who liked him before me, now I see what you're talking about.

And Atlantis?  So cool.  Number one, I saw some continuity between this episode and the previous one.  If you watch, McKay is much quieter this episode, and whenever no one is looking at him he gets this very sad look on his face.  He doesn't complain a lot, he follows orders, and aside from the moment when he tries to talk to Carson about biology, he doesn't start conversations.  As a character, he shows signs of still being badly shaken by last week's (or however long ago it was on the show) events.  He doesn't have his confidence back yet.

Number two, maybe I've just been spending too much time with Harry Potter stuff, but a lot of this episode reminds me of werewolves.  Isolated because of what you are, desperate not to hurt people, the instant antipathy from most people, and in the end, she was forced to become what she had fought so hard to avoid being, a Wraith.  Then add in the cut she gave Sheppard, and the previews for next week, and you've got the classic werewolf pattern repeating.

And I think Illya, or however you spell her name, had a crush on Ronan.  Why else would she be so persistant in offering him food and drink?  And Teyla's "there are times when we do not follow orders", and when asked who determines those times, her comment, "we do", was perfect.

Dad here

Having a Ph. D. like your professor has doesn't make you right about everything. After all, in our family, who actually knows everything - Mom. On the serious side, look at web sites like talkorigins.org for alternative arguments. Anatomy and physiology is also the least Darwinian field of study - you need evolution to explain WHY things are the way they are, but for most of the course, it is simple memorization and regurgitation. it's only when you have mastered the language and structure of anatomy that you are even halfway prepared to deal with the evolution of anatomical structures.

I'm planning on ignoring her. But it does annoy me that she'd refer to something like that on the first day of serious classes. And most of my classmates are freshmen who haven't had Biology yet. I'm just going to read the book and ignore her for the most part.

Oh, and we do get to do cadaver disections, or at least observe them.

Yes Mommy. At least Physics seems easier. And Anatomy I can just teach myself out of the book.
