mari4212: Mr. Tumnus inviting Lucy to tea (mr. tumnus)

So Dad and Thomas are now safely ensconced at boy scout camp, which means that the food Mom and I'll be making this week will veer even more strongly into what we call chickfood. It also means that the house is quieter, especially in the mornings, as Dad's idea of background noise levels tends to be much louder than Mom's ideas or mine.

I mentioned that I was going to see POTC2 with my friends yesterday, didn't I? It's the second time I've seen it, so I actually have coherent thoughts on it. I liked it, overall. I thought the four leads did well with their characters, some of the lines, especially "It's the Bible! You get credit for trying." and "Hide the rum." were hysterical, and I really liked the plotline between Will Turner and his father.

I do have some quibbles, though. One, the entire film felt a bit puffy and overlong. Parts of it, especially the battle scenes, could have been condensed or eliminated and it would have flowed better. Two, the CGI on Davy Jones' crew went too far. I think the concept, that they were humans being taken over by the sea, was interesting, but the execution was messed up and they looked more like cartoonish monsters than real people. The only one it really looked interesting and compelling on was Bill Turner, because he still looked human enough for the viewer to understand the real horror of what was happening to him. And three, I really didn't like what they did with Norrington's character. The one thing that really impressed me with the character in the first movie was his sense of honor, and it feels like they destroyed that part of him this time arround.

What else was I going to say? I've got more baby-sitting coming up this evening, with my normal clients, so that should be fun.

Oh, and in a week's time my journal will officially be a year old. It doesn't seem possible that I've been on here that long.

I have to agree with your analysis of Pirates, I can understand why they felt the need to add too much fluff into the show, they wanted to go for a trilogy but didn’t have enough plot for it. I did dislike what happened to Norrington, rather than leave him as an example of the British stiff upper lip™ they decided that he had to play a more antagonistic role. I think they also tried to hard in the CGI department, the first one did a fabulous job, so the second one had (in the eyes of the producers) top it, and they failed, in my mind at least.

Ah well. By this time, I think most of the people who want to see it have, and the rest don't care about it enough to want to read my thoughts.

I think part of it was that they felt they had to use up all their CGI budget for this movie, so that they get the same kind of budget for the next film where they'll need it.

Actually, I'm about to post my review since I just saw it for the first time.

I liked it, although I'm confused on a couple things. Lots of private squeeing from me hah.
I love Norrington, so I was happy to see a bigger role for him. When he walked up to sign up to be crew on the Black Pearl but the camera didn't show his face...yeah. ♥
I am sad that he became disgraced that way, but that's how the world works, sometimes.

I don't plan to see PotC:2 until it is out on video, so I appreciate continuing to cut. (I personally tend to cut plot spoilers for everything all the time, though I know some people think that's a bit overboard.)
