Jul. 19th, 2006 08:18 pmIt's been a long day. First, there was threats of a thunderstorm last night, so Mom went to shut down the computer. It stalled, halfway through the shut-down cycle and refused to either start up again or shut down all the way. And of course it pulled this on the night my Dad had been suddenly called out of town on a work emergency and would be gone all night.
I fixed it this morning actually, which is surprising considering my lack of technical prowess. I was just grasping at straws and decided to hold down the power key for a bit, to see if there was just a problem with the circut connecting all the way. Amazingly, that worked, the computer shut down all the way and when we started it up again it was functioning fine. Score one for randomly trying something stupidly obvious.
And it's been stickily hot this week, which means that both Mom and the kids are out of sorts. This means that they feed off of each other, and I spent a bit of time this afternoon calming Mom down to the point where she no longer felt like killing anyone. I have a feeling I've earned myself several good daughter points. I'm saving them up for the next time we have trouble getting things worked out with my college.
I've been re-reading a lot of Mercedes Lackey this past week and a half, and remembering exactly why she's my favorite author. Some of these books I'm re-reading for about the twentieth time, and still new details pop out at me, still I fall in love with the characters, still some of the plot twists hit me with the same force they did the first time I read the books.
And in proof that great minds do think alike, no sooner had we finished up with a Hufflepuff snaps_cup than a larger H_E cup began. Some of the compliments that I got there really turned this day around from exhausting to fun.
