I had someone volunteer to drive us to Dayton and back over Fall Break. This means no nine-hour drives each way for you.

I have already bounced and thanked her and offered cookies, backrubs, and Mom's food to her in gratitude.

I'm in this weird state where my brain doesn't want to shut down, but I'm still getting tired.

So, let's look over the things I accomplished today, see if that will relax me.

1. Had another meeting with my advisor, where we finalized my letter to the Interdisciplinary Board. This is the letter where I officially state that I want to be an ID student, and explain my reasoning for combining the majors that I have done. Too bad they wouldn't just take "but it's just so darn cool, why wouldn't I want to study it" as an answer, I would have been done in a sentence instead of a page. We also worked a bit more on finalizing my schedule for the next few years,(There's one religion class I'm determined to take, Theology and Story, which made me think of you, hermionesviolin.) and we're meeting on Friday after he'll have had a chance to grab the people I wanted to be my advisors for my Biology and religion subdivisions of my major. Note to any others who are considering doing an ID major, it's a lot of fun, but also a lot more paperwork and dealling with the administration.

2. I found a missing book at the library and got candy for it.

3. I got the bulk of my ficathon story written. There's half of one scene that I still need to write, and I need to come up with a last ending bit to capture the scene in my head, but I've got it to where I should be finished by Friday.

4. I started writing a bit of my lab report. Tommorow I'm going to find the six sources I'll need for citation, and I want to finish writing up the methods section. That should be the easiest bit, and from there I can do the results. If I go from results to discussion, then I can look at the key themes in the paper and work backwards from there to write the introduction. I think the longest parts are going to be the research and the actual data analysis, because I think I'm going to have to do at least some of those equations on paper so that I have something to imput into the program. Margalef's index and Shannon-Weiner index are the two that I'm pretty certain I'll have to do for each tract by hand. Once I get those I should be able to do the P value and the T-test on the computer program. At least now I've got a picture in my head about how I'm going to do this and what things I need to do to get it all done, and I'm no longer freaking out.

5. I finished the blackwork piece that I started at Rendevous. It turned out reasonably well, for a first attempt, and I think I'm going to try to do more of them. All it takes is canvas and black embroidery floss, and I can either repeat the pretty pattern or try to find a few new patterns online. The blackwork stuff to do is nice, because it's almost meditative with the kind of concentration and relaxation you experience while you're working the pattern.
