May. 13th, 2007 08:24 pmMommy's Day.
Like most holidays in our family, we've got a set tradition for Mother's Day. Sometime the week/weekend before we get plants for the garden, and plant them.
On that Sunday, we have church as usual, then head down and watch the play at Alter. This year's play was Little Shop of Horrors, and, well...
I think it was definitely not one of the strongest performances I've seen out of Alter in recent years. They gave it their all, but one actor was doing such a strong accent for his character that you couldn't understand half the things he was supposed to be saying/singing. And I'm not sure if it's the sound equipment problems again, but there were several points where you couldn't hear one or more actors, while the others were coming out much more strongly than necessary. Ironically, it was the Do-Wap girls functioning as the chorus who were the most interesting and compelling, not the main characters.
I'm not sure if I just got spoiled by a series of incredibly strong performances from Alter in the past, or if I've just been exposed to enough of the college level plays that I'm expecting more than I should from a high school.
After that, we came home and enjoyed one of the other traditional presents. One of the kids' mothers always brings us a ready-made dinner so that we don't have to cook on Mother's day.
Dad also got Mom the traditional teapot, and I knitted her a lightweight shawl. All in all, a relatively nice day.
