Dear teacher,

1. Yes, I used informal language in the most recent paper. Why? Because A) you said it was to be an editorial, which implies non-academic language, and B) the example you had us spend an entire class period analyzing to use as a template for writing our own used that same style of informal language.

2. Please make up your mind at what level you are reading these stupid papers. On the one hand, you don't seem to recognize when a metaphor is being used just as a simple metaphor, which seems to indicate a lower reading level. On the other hand, you go off on a long tangent about an incomplete parallelism I wrote, when I wasn't even trying to set up a parallel, which seems to indicate you getting ridiculously technical and reading more into the stupid thing than I intended. These two examples are only a few paragraphs apart. Pick a level and stick to it, so I know where to aim.

3. For the love of God, would you please get more explicit in what the heck you're looking for? You've asked us so far for a position paper where the assignment wording was so vague that apparently no one got what you were asking for, an editorial which we were apparently supposed to write in academic language even when you did not indicate this, and another position paper with an irritatingly vague topic that I don't even want to try to write until I can talk with you about what your goals are.

4. And random colored highlights with no key to what those highlights mean do not a decent critique make. They just leave me banging my head against my desk some more and ranting at anyone who makes the mistake of listening to me speak right now.

5. In conclusion, WTF?

No love, Mari.

I really wish I could just send that in an e-mail to my teacher. Instead, I sent her a four-line "can we talk about your grading of these papers?" e-mail that was a lot more politely worded.

In other, less ranty, news, I was possibly asked out on a date for this weekend. By the guy in my Latin class that I like talking to and who makes me laugh a lot. Possibly in that he did it in a casual enough way that it could just as easily be interpreted as a just-friends kind of thing, and my reading of guy body-language is not good enough for me to tell the difference between, "this is actually casual," and, "I'm acting casual so I won't look stupid if you turn me down". Remind me I need to grab money for that and going out with the other single girls for desserts on Thursday.

Also, there is snow. And supposedly over the night, freezing rain, ice, and more snow will fall. I am quite possibly crossing my fingers and hoping that the class with the teacher mentioned above is canceled tomorrow.
