May. 16th, 2008 01:46 pmOkay, so I'm about a week behind on SPN, which means I just saw last week's episode yesterday.
First things first, bets on how long it's going to take for this new guy to get himself killed horribly? Given Supernatural's track record with the other black male characters they've had, I'm not holding out much hope.
Second, I realized with this episode that we haven't seen Ruby in forever. I realized I'm one of approximately three people who found her interesting, and we did have an abbreviated season, but I'm kind of wondering where she's gone. *crosses fingers for the finale including her, with her not getting randomly killed off*
Third, Bela! I'm feeling a bit cheated, actually. I'd really wanted more out of her story arc, and it just got so truncated. And I really didn't like the hints we got about what motivated her to make that deal, or at least, that we got those hints and Dean and Sam didn't, because I think they ended up feeling a lot more self-righteous out of that than they should have.
Really, this episode felt a lot like they squished two episodes together that were originally going to be separate, and it ended up cheating both plot arcs a lot. Bella's storyline could have been expanded a lot more, and even if they'd ended it the same way, it would have been more satisfying had they just included more about her and her motivations. Frankly, it's about time Sam and Dean get whapped upside the head with a realization that they don't always understand other people's circumstances. (Okay, so I got really annoyed with Dean's judgmental attitudes last night, and also with the way Bela's deal just got dumped into the plot with so little foreshadowing.) And the immortality cheat plotline also felt sort of rushed and treated in a shallow manner because of how little time they had for it in the episode.
So, color me somewhat underwhelmed.
