Oct. 28th, 2005 08:23 pmExcuse me for a minute while I yell at Sci-fi channel for pre-empting Firefly, Stargate, and Atlantis for monster movies. Gah.
I also really hate being just sick enough to not be able to concentrate when I have a paper I need to write. I'm on page six of a seven to eight page paper that's due in by midnight tonight and I can't concentrate on it at all. *sticks tongue out at paper*
And I ran out of chocolate, but I don't want to go down to Aces to get it. I really should though, it won't be open till midafternoon tomorrow and I need to have it before then if these cramps don't go away.
And AB replied to my earlier comment. I couldn't come up with a coherant reply today if he were sitting right in front of me right now asking for my answer. On the plus side, he thinks my response was thoughtful and intelligent. We might not be able to agree with each other, but we're going to be polite about it. And if anyone has links to some good articles from the liberal perspective that I could share? Since he gives me so much to read, I thought I might return the favor. Polite articles, please, that state the position clearly and hopefully provide a sensible plan of action as well.
In other news, I'm feeling slightly guilty. I had to meet with my groupmates last night so that we could all get copies of the articles our teacher had given us to help with our presentation and paper. And just as I was leaving, they mentioned how wonderful I had been during the project. I was somewhat speachless. I'd spent how much time complaining about them? Not to their face or anything, but I was annoyed to be working with them and I complained about it here and in conversations with my parents. And then they turn around and compliment me on what a good job I'd been doing. It made me feel really bad about complaining about them so much.
And I want to trade off two of my icons and replace them with others. One of the others that I'm planning to use will be the beautiful Eowyn icon made for me as a response to the Christmas wish list, and the other will probably be along the lines of my Sam and Chocolate one. Any preferences as to which icon in the current batch I keep?

Date: 2005-10-29 02:16 am (UTC)No kidding. Stupid Sci-Fi. Not even good monster movies, either, if there even is such a thing.
It made me feel really bad about complaining about them so much.
Aw, don't you hate that? Don't feel too bad, though. You had every right to complain and if, in some weird alternate universe, they had been in your position I'm sure they would have done far worse. (I'm not sure if they came out right...)
Any preferences as to which icon in the current batch I keep?
Well, it's certainly up to you, but I tend to identify the kitty-cat with you. They're all good, though.

Date: 2005-10-29 02:28 am (UTC)The fact that they seem to appreciate the good work you've been doing does not mean you're not allowed to complain about the fact that they haven't been doing work or haven't been good groupmates or whatever.

It's the least I can do! You listen to me grumble, after all.

Leadership skills
Date: 2005-10-29 03:51 pm (UTC)With a team that isn't funtioning as well, a leader needs to do more hands-on direction, and needs to do more of the work. He/she also needs to persuade, cajole, flatter and encourage reluctant followers to do their work. A really dominant leader (think John Wayne, or a stereotypical footbal coach) can order or threaten. Soimetimes, a leader needs to act (lie). With a poorly-functioning team, a leader will need to support, encourage and praise his/her team, even when they don't deserve it, and make the leader want to tear his/her hair out. In that situation, a leader can blow off steam complaining about a team with other people (outside the team), while maintaining the front with the team itself.
Sounds like you were doing your job as a leader well.
