Okay, catch up time. Christmas eve and Christmas day.

Christmas eve started out early, and I woke up to the wonderful smell of baking bread. Mom was doing prep work on the soup and bread that we were bringing up for lunch at Grandmommy's. Apparently, Grandmommy had said something on the phone that had scared Uncle Ralph, which makes more sense when you consider the fact that the last time he saw her, it was right after her stroke. She's doing a lot better now, and just wanted to know the information, but he decided to come up and see her, and have a small service. So we set it up, called up our priest, and arranged for a room. Luckily, Grandmommy had a really good day, so the lunch was good.

When we got back from Grandmommy's, we started wrapping and bowing the rest of the presents. Okay, that was mainly my brother, as it's his job to bow presents. I did the dishes and read my new Terry Pratchett book. I won't spoil it for you, [livejournal.com profile] ljmckay, but "Where's my cow?"

Oh, and I got a wonderful present from [livejournal.com profile] celtic_sky. A beautiful icon, a compliment, and a great fic. *hugs* Thank you so much.

We ordered pizza for dinner, an old family tradition. It's one of the only times we eat take-out. And I cleaned up and did dishes, and then got ready for church. The Christmas Eve service is our big fancy service of the year. Everyone gets dressed up, and the choir goes all out. And I was called up to dance at the service. The choir sang "The Little Drummer Boy", and I danced aroud the nave. It worked out very well, and I was having fun with the dancing. From the comments I got later, I think it went across well.

[livejournal.com profile] lady_tigerfish was there, after my threats to duct tape her to the roof-rack of my family's car and take her to church that way. We squeed appropriately, and I introduced her to various people. She had to leave shortly after the service, and then a little girl from our church decided to sack out on top of me. After I handed her off to her father, it was time to go home. We got changed for bed, and then Dad read The Littlest Angel to us. Then Mom handed out stockings to us, and we each filled someone else's stocking for them.

Christmas morning really got started around eight in the morning, when I woke Mom up with a promise that there was coffee in the world. She was the last up, aside from Sara, but Sara gets woken up when everyone else is up, as a rule of thumb. We passed around the stockings, and I ended up with some nice hair sticks, a pretty claw, and a couple of kitty-cat scrunchies.

After we went through the stockings, we had breakfast and got dressed. And I ended up dropping a cup of hot water down my nightgown while trying to make myself some oatmeal. Luckily, it wasn't too hot, so I just ended up soaked, not in any pain. When all of us were dressed, we opened our "open-me-firsts" presents. Thomas was re-gifted with the leather coat that he had actually been given earlier in the month. I recieved a cross necklace from my Aunt Cathy and Uncle Ralph. Then we were off to church. (Yes again. It's a long story, but we've been attending the Christmas morning service for years. Thomas will kill me if I explain further.) Actually, it was very crowded for the Christmas morning service. If there had been two more people, I think we would have had to move from the chapel into the nave. And we ran into a few other people during coffee hour after the service. I got to play with some of the kids that I have babysat for years.

When we got home after church, we ate lunch and Mom and Dad stuffed the turkey and started cooking. Then it was time to actually open presents. I ended up with several books from my list, which made me glee-ful. There we a couple of other great presents, and then came the cd. Typically, Dad gets each of us a cd. I'd requested the latest Ceili Rain cd, not realizing that they'd just put out an anthology. So I'm still missing Change in Your Pocket, but I'm enjoying the anthology very much. It's a reminder to double check everything before I speak in generalities.

Everyone liked my presents to them, which made me rather happy.

This was the first time in years that we'd eaten Christmas dinner with just the immediate family at home. It was rather comforting to go back to some of our old habits, and to eat all our own recipies. I love Aunt Cindy's food, but it's not as comforting. It's a lot fancier, but sometimes you don't want fancy. And we also found out exactly what my alcohol tolerance is. To put it bluntly, I barely smell the wine and I'm dizzy. I was definitely feeling it after four sips, and this is after eating a good meal and having other things to drink. It was rather amusing, especially to my sister, who inherits our father's alcohol tolerance and who's favorite drink is scotch. What can I say, I'm a lightweight.

But that was my Christmas. Relaxed, fun, and an overall good day.

Sounds awesome!

I won't spoil it for you, ljmckay, but "Where's my cow?"

Thanks. :) I just started mine today and I love it so far!

Happy Boxing Day!

Happy Boxing day!

It's fun. I really am starting to think that Vetinari is grooming Vimes to take over as Patrician some day. And Carrot will take over as head of the Watch.

To put it bluntly, I barely smell the wine and I'm dizzy.

This reminded me of last spring when I opened a bottle of really dark red wine in my friend's room and we had to open the windows 'cause it was so strong (she's allergic to alcohol, so letting the fumes sit in her room was obviously a no-go).

Thud. It's the latest in the City Watch books, in the Discworld series.

*huggles* You're welcome!

And that sounds like a wonderful Christmas. *bounces* I'm so happy. Of the people on my f-list who've posted about it, everyone seems to have had a good one!

Oh, and my compliments on getting the hair color almost exactly perfect on this icon.
