Random book series recomendation.

If you like:
1. History
2. Alternate histories that make sense.
3. Historical fiction that doesn't
a) Pretend that everyone in the past were ignorant savages.
b) Or pretend that everyone in the past had the same ideals/values as modern day Americans.
4. Has complex character interactions that don't boil down to various different characters telling the lead male and lead female to kiss each other already.
5. Complex, detailed plots.
6. Random bursts of insanely humorous commentary.

Then go immediately down to your local library and request Eric Flint's 1632 series. Right now there's seven books out, 1632, 1633, 1634: The Galileo Affair, 1634: The Ram Rebellion, Ring of Fire, and two editions of the Grantville Gazette. All of them are just that good.

This has been a random book rec. You may now return to your regularly scheduled Sunday goof-off time.

No, but why do I have the feeling I'm going to be checking them out soon?

Hahaha. Well, it depends. Do you like historical novels with lots of crazy, somwhat inbred Scottish people of questionable parentage who quote poetry a lot and get into dramatic swordfights while trying to cover up secret court intrigue that they aren't supposed to know about?

*dies* I can't get over the fact that this series manages to be devastatingly witty and intelligent even with a protaginist who is essentially fandom!Draco minus the leather pants.

Well the main problem with fandom!Draco is that he's so out of character in the fanfics. Unless you're talking about abused, woobiefied!Draco, not snarkily intelligent, overly refined and classy!Draco.

But the crazy Scottish people getting into dramatic swordfights and quoting poetry sounds interesting. *notes author*

No, definately snarky, elegant Draco. It's worth a look, for sure. The first book is called Game of Kings, and they all play on a chess motiff.

I'll vouch for the enjoyment of these books, Mari loaned me the first one and I finished 1633 just recently.
