Yesterday started out well, turned into the day from heck, and then turned around again and became wonderful.

I woke up yesterday, and it was actually cool enough to breathe. That alone would have made the morning good, but additionally the kids were relatively well behaved and I got to escape to the library and relax for a few hours. And because it was ten degrees cooler with a dramatically lowered humidity level, I managed to walk to the library without wanting to collapse in a heap.

Then, when I came home from the library, I ended up having a rather nice conversation over livejournal, before I started hearing the rumblings of thunder and had to turn off the computer in a hurry.

The thunderstorm itself was not bad, in fact, it was a terrific storm, but it marked the transition between the earlier good part of the day into the rather awful part of the day.

The two girls woke up crying in fear because of the thunder, which was why I didn't notice at first that the boy was messier than he should have been, given what was for lunch. I just ignored it in favor of calming the girls down and getting diapers changed. Then I took them all out to sit on the front porch swing, because most of the thunderstorm had passed by and I wanted to enjoy the breezes.

After a few minutes of sitting, the little boy casually leaned forward and threw up all over himself. Lovely. I sent my brother down to get some towels to dry him up and just stripped the boy down to his diaper, so that he wouldn't have to deal with the sticky-gross clothes. I left the mess where it was for the time being, brought the kids into the house, and put the little boy into his spare set of clothes, before tackling the mess on the front porch.

By the time all of that had been dealt with, Mom came back from picking up her other charge. At which point the boy threw up two more times in a row, and the younger girl pitched a fit because she was grossed out and afraid the boy would touch her or her doll. At the time she was throwing this temper-tantrum, the boy was on the other side of the room, at least ten feet away from her. I decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and besides, Mom was home and the kids are her responsibility. I went and hid downstairs in my bedroom with a good book until the kids had left the house. So that was the bad portion of my day.

After all the kids had left and the crises were over, we had dinner and then Mom and I headed out to do some of my school shopping. We had little luck the first place we went, although we did get my socks and boots relatively cheaply. But the second place we went, we found something that I had considered to be a demi-mythological creation, a pair of jeans that fit me without alteration. Me. Mom and I nearly died of shock, because jeans and I do not tend to get along. We normally find something that sort of fits in most places, and try to fix what doesn't make any approximation of fitting. For future reference for myself, and in case any of you are planning on stalking me and want to know, they're Ridders size 12 petite, midrise boot-cut.

Maybe they fit other people as well and you could start your own sisterhood of the jeans.
*BLINK*
Wait that sounds familiar.

Having read enough of that series to decide that I don't want to see the movie, I hope not. And if anyone else has my medieval body type, they're welcome to go try and get that size and style.

I wasn't aware there was a certain body type in medieval times. And the movie looked horrible and I'd never even heard of the books before that.

In every era there are prefered body types and figures. Right now, the preference is for tall, thin, and tanned.

I'm short and rather curvy, a body type that tended to be appreciated in Medieval Europe, judging from the songs, stories, and clothes designs from that era.

Well I'm short, average weight and pale.

Yay for a day ending up wonderful!

And extra YAY for well-fitting jeans!

(I have issues too: I have a butt. Jeans people don't like people with butts. Thus, if it fits my bum, it hurts because it's a bit too high at the front. If it fits my front, the world gets a lovely peek at my crack. I've given up and just yank them up or unbutton [and hide it] when hurting now.) Don't get me started on shirts. :D[/end rant]

I so want to see you all dressed-up in garb someday.

Word on the rear end issues. Like I've said, I'm curvy, normally if it fits my hips, it's a size too large to fit my waist, which has mysteriously shrunk over the past year without me loosing any actual weight. That's why I was so excited over these jeans, the waist and the hips both fit!

And if you want a glance at me in garb, go here: http://jediravenclaw.livejournal.com/105828.html. I'm the furthest to the left, wearing the green and yellow. And normally I don't look that tall, but we were on a really steep hill, so the girl next to me who looks like she's my height is really about three inches taller than me, and the girl who looks like she's a foot shorter is actually my height in real life.

I'll have to force my father to take pictures of me when we go to Renfest this year.

Heh. I have the opposite problem with waists/hips. Which is why I adore hipster jeans. :D

*blinks* That makes absolutely no sense! Unless you've gained muscle and lost fat?

...Wow! You look fantstic! You really do pull that outfit off! (Although, is that a watch I spy? They had watches then? :P)

You know, I'm wondering if there's some list of women's figures through time. Because I'm utterly curious as to where I'd fall...

Thank you! As for the watch, in my defense, there were women there wearing red, and people of both genders wearing purple who were not of an appropriate rank in that kingdom. Anachronisms abounded.

...Err, I forgot to take it off, really.

As for my waist, I'm not sure either. My aunt, from whom I've inherited this figure, predicted that this was going to happen.

As far as women's figures, well, the basic figure types have always existed, But if you look at the art from a certain period, you tend to see what was considered desirable for that time by what is emphasized.

Peter Paul Reubens, for example, is excellent if anyone ever wants to feel better about their weight. He loved full-figured women, and used his wife as a model a lot. He especially loved the soft outward curve of a stomach.

Generally speaking, if a society is undergoing scarcity of resources, fuller figures are prefered. It means that the woman has access to enough food to grow that figure. When a society is affluent, thinness is prefered.

Heehee.

Yeah, I pretty much knew that. I was just really idly wondering where I would fit in those eras of 'most desired'. They tend to have flattering styles then for those figures and I thought it could help me find things that fit!
