Yes, definitely ow. Mom swears some day she's going to take my sister and I to the gynecologist and see what's wrong. According to her, cramps aren't supposed to be this bad.
Ouch. :( One of my friends swears that exercise helps her cramps. I always feel too horrible to try to move, but if you can make yourself go for a walk or something, maybe you'll find it does help. *shrugs*
Go to a doctor, seriously. There's stuff they can do for evil pariods. I'm on a pill that fixes mine now, but I've also been prescribed a drug called Ponstan that sorts the pains blissfully.
Oh Lord. I'm sorry; being English, you never even think about money in relation to healthcare. It's just like trying to think in a foreign language. >.>
I normally do a combination of 1 and 5, with a personal number six: eat lots of chocolate.
I did a brief scan over the symptoms for endometriosis. I've only got one symptom, and when I described the feeling of my cramps to my mother she said they sounded like uterine contractions. We'll do the doctor, sometime, when we have both time and money for it.
I've actually found that cold works better than heat for me, but that's just my odd uterus. And the chocolate actually does biologically help you.
I used to get awful cramps, and they found out it was polycystic ovarian syndrome, which can sometimes be a precursor to endometreosis (which runs in my family) but can also just be icky in and of itself. They prescribed me with birth control pills, and it's done wonders for my cramps and hormones alike.
*hugs* Reading through the other comments, I have to ask: Have you checked your university health center to see if they do women's health? They had several gynecologists on staff at NIU, and I didn't have to pay anything unless lab work was required.
I'm actually a little disappointed, because I have a growning suspicion that my new university doesn't have women's health.

Normally the cramps aren't so bad, but every few months I'll get a period where my body will decide that it hates me.

TMI contd...
Date: 2006-09-03 08:52 pm (UTC)1) Wait it out
2) See a doctor--you may have endometriosis
3) Exercise
4) Masturbate
5) Hotpad
Any of the above are viable techniques for relieving cramps.
