Sep. 19th, 2006 08:22 pmI'm going to focus on the silver linings of this whole mess at H_E.
One, H_E as a whole is more unified. I've seen a lot of cross-house support and respect as people try to deal with this girl.
Two, I really feel that I've gotten to know some people better, become better friends than before. Maybe it would have happened eventually, under better circumstances, but it did happen now, with her as the direct impetus.
Three, though her drama ended up overshadowing it, as a community we did get to discuss concepts of houses, so we might end up with a better sorting of future applicants.
/end H_E stuff.
As for the rest of the day, that was also pretty good.
I had a test in Animal Behavior. Overall I think I did well, but I know there were a few questions that I probably messed up on.
In Physics, we got our tests back. Mom, Dad, make sure you're sitting down. I got an A. *waits for parents to recover from shock* He told us at the begining of the course that he had a larger range of what he counted an A or a B. A's were from 85% to 100%, B's were 70% to 85%, C's were 60% to 70%. I got an 86%. The girl I've been coaching got a 70%. And that was the test I thought I'd done the worst on!
And for Eco/Evo lab, we went out to Wesselman Woods and identified trees. My group had a girl with a broken foot in a borg boot, so after the first time where we all tromped out into the underbrush with the thorns, she and I stayed behind and the other two girls went out. Through the wonders of modern telecommunications, they identified the trees and relayed their diameters through her, and I wrote everything down and kept track of data. Because of that, we got through three transacts in the time it took everyone else to do two. As my mother would say, creative laziness.

Date: 2006-09-20 01:58 am (UTC)As for the H_E stuff, way to focus on the positive. I only know what I heard through you, but it sounds like it was pretty bad. But see, entries like this one is why you will live longer than the average person -- or at least enjoy what time you have more!

Date: 2006-09-20 04:11 pm (UTC)Really, the sorting business was more annoying than anything else, it was just that it was a bunch of annoyances all coming at once. The stuff with this girl, well, we're working at a solution. Outside of incidents like this, which are normally quite rare, H_E is a ton of fun. And even in times like these, there are the bright points.
I'm actually borrowing from Stoic philosophy here, that if you cannot change the events, you can change your attitude about those events. It does seem to help.

Date: 2006-09-20 02:31 am (UTC)On the good side, as we Eagles discussed the mess and I entered into the ranting in a pleasant way, I had at least five additional pleple ad me as friends.

Date: 2006-09-20 03:00 am (UTC)I'm actually proud of how the Slytherins can't stand 'Puff bashing. It seems that it ranks as the number 2 example of Slytherpushing, right after I'M SO EEEEVILLLLL!!!

Date: 2006-09-20 06:39 pm (UTC)False alarm, it was just my dad's phrasing not being the best. He meant that Slytherins were getting nasty in Hufflepuff's defense, against those who would bash our house in an attempt to push Slytherin.

Date: 2006-09-20 02:55 am (UTC)*hugs* I'm an insane optimist, writing things like this reminds me of how much I love the community, even when it occasionally drives me nuts. I had a similar motivation behind posting that love meme up at H_E main on Sunday.

Date: 2006-09-20 02:57 am (UTC)I think it's weirder if you've read the emails. I mean, I swear to God, I really tried to help her. and then...this. O_o;;

Date: 2006-09-20 04:25 am (UTC)It's just nuts. You were nothing if not helpful and nice to her, you gave many different strategies to help her avoid conflict in the future, and then out of nowhere she's attacking you.
I also love the about face she does on certain points. She spent so long in your journal claiming that she hadn't been rude and if it was it wasn't on purpose. All of a sudden, everywhere else, she says that she was rude on purpose, to "Prove A Point To Olivia". One of these things is not like the other.

Date: 2006-09-20 09:18 am (UTC)Also found it telling that she was claiming in the first mail she sent me that she hadn't known she was rude to
*Confused face*
Well...which? It can't be both!

Date: 2006-09-20 06:34 pm (UTC)Oh well, we get the petition written, signed, and turned over to Wizen and then we'll be out of it.

Date: 2006-09-20 11:50 pm (UTC)I wanted to make up for the moments I actually spent with a lack in self-confidence. You see, I actually almost let myself believe that I was the only one in the wrong, even after you attacked me, and refused to see that your friends were being rather rude to me too.
you refuse to admit that you are also in the wrong, and that your friends were also in the wrong.
would rather indicate that, yes. ^_^
Also not sure why I owed her an apology after spending ages trying to help her. But oh well, with luck it'll all be over soon, anyway.

Date: 2006-09-21 12:08 am (UTC)I think it would be only fair to give her some examples of the difference between the way I behave during polite discussion and the way I behave when I'm rude. For pedagogical purposes, naturally, and not at all because I have wanted to smite her ever since she posted that last entry in her lj... ;) It's too bad trolling won't solve anything.

Date: 2006-09-21 03:28 am (UTC)I had this same physics course last year, and I think the highest test grade I got was a C. It totally beat me then. This year I've got a teacher who actually makes sense, it's amazing what a difference that made.
