Nov. 8th, 2006 02:04 pmAnyone care to tell me why it is that if I post something for an H_E contest thinking "oh well, at least I'll get five points participation for Hufflepuff", I end up placing well?
We had a drabble contest and I pretty much wrote it at the last minute. To me it felt rather awkward. And it won second place.
H_E voters are weird.
(also, I need to post a critique thread up at
bend_the_spoon now.)

Date: 2006-11-09 04:07 am (UTC)Thank you, sweetie, that means a lot coming from you.
Normally I do try to do beautiful things, but this was one of the drabbles where I felt that I'd failed to make the scene complete in the word limit. It felt rough and unfinished to me, which is why I'm suprised to have done so well.

Date: 2006-11-09 06:15 pm (UTC)Here is the drabble:
Late night drinks out at Rosemerta’s had become a tradition for Minerva, Pomona, and Sinestra. No men, no students, no responsibilities, and a lot of alcohol. Inevitably, after a few rounds of drinks, the conversation turned, well, interesting.
“So there I was, still a cat, just finished with a prowl around the grounds, and Hagrid wanders past me, drunk as a skunk, with an erumpent on a leash! Merlin only knows what would have happened in his next class if I hadn’t caught him.” Minerva was saying, smiling into her drink.
“Tell me you’re joking,” Pomona pleaded.
“I never joke.”
And here is the challenge:
Write a drabble which includes the following elements:
1. at least three characters
2. a beast or animal with magical properties
3. set in a location outside of Hogwarts Castle
4. an appearance by a Hogwarts professor
