1. Yes, it is midnight where I am.

2. Yes, I would ordinarily be asleep.

3. Yes, I am spamming my poor flist.

4. Sorry.

5. What!

Seriously, what gives? Are you trying to destroy my show?

Amanda Tapping coming in, Carson leaving and being replaced by the girl who played Kaylee, and now you're going to decrease Weir's role?

Now look, I don't object to change simply because it's change. But there's a limit to how much you can do at any one point and have it work, and there's a limit to how much you can muck around with the chemistry of a show before it stops working.

Pick one thing, PTB, and do it. Do not dump all these changes at once and have at it.

Let's start with the idea to have Sam go over to Atlantis. I understand, you've got a contract with Amanda Tapping, and this seems like a way to not have to break that contract. But think for a second. What are you going to do with her? No, really, what? On Stargate, Sam fulfilled two purposes. She balanced out the team/served as a female lead, and she was the science guru, the one who fixed the problems.

But both those roles are filled already on Atlantis. We've got Teyla on the team, and if you want to improve the female lead, start by giving her something interesting to do, don't drag in someone else because you're failing at writing her. And we've got McKay as the science person. What are you going to do with that? Have her subordinate to him? Won't work, she's used to being in charge and their personalities conflict. Have her take over? You will loose half your fandom in one fell swoop. McKay is pretty much everyone's favorite or second favorite character, diminishing his role or making him look stupid compared to her is just going to annoy all of us. Hey, I hate it when you stop to take the cheap shots at him this season anyway, I don't need more of them.

Then there's having Jewel come in to replace Carson. Actually, out of all the changes, I can most accept this one, with one caveat. Writers, you've shown that you have problems writing women with Teyla and Elizabeth. Why the heck are you making things more difficult for yourselves by adding another female character into the mix? Girls really aren't that hard to write, but you'd never know it by your work. So prove to me that you can write this new doctor's character well, and I'll buy it. Otherwise, you're just getting rid of one character you've done well with to bring in a weaker character. Does not make any sense.

Reducing Elizabeth's role. *sigh* As if it isn't bad enough that you haven't given her any really interesting episodes to do since season one? Gah. And you started out so strongly with Home, Before I Sleep, and Letters From Pegasus. I thought you knew what you were doing with her and were doing it well. Then you dropped the ball in the second season and never went back to her. Why are you dropping a perfectly good character? Is it because she's not the sci-fi female stereotype? Don't you realize that's what made her such a great character?

Must resist urge to bash writer/producers heads in.

Here's hoping at least some of it turns out to be internet rumor. Otherwise, I'll give next season a shot, but they'd better impress me. I've got other fandoms I can focus on. I will not stick around if they destroy everything that made me fall in love with the show.

I need some fanfic. Can anyone rec me something with a really good Elizabeth? Preferably not Sheppard/Weir, though I'll read that if the writing's good enough.
