Feb. 10th, 2007 05:58 pmToday was one of those days.
You know, those "Murphy was an optimist, can't I just forget I ever woke up today?" days.
Yeah, starting with the fact that my alarm clock is only half-catching the station it's tuned to, so it's rather fuzzy-sounding and quiet first thing in the morning. Now, I wouldn't mind it being somewhat quiet, as I try to keep everything I've got set to something that won't disturb the girls in the room next door, (an attitude I really wish they'd pick up on, by the way) but I also need it to be loud enough to wake me up on time. Sure, my classes are late enough that even if I sleep through my alarm, I'll probably wake up in time for them anyway, but I like having those few hours to wake up and do things without anyone else in my dorm being awake.
So I slept in for longer than I'd have liked, but that's deal-with-able, nothing that I'd normally mind. The next bit came with the fact that I'd decided to go to work a bit early today. Technically, the library doesn't open till ten on Saturdays, but ever since this semester started, the librarians have been opening the doors about fifteen minutes ahead of time. Since I was planning on skipping out a few minutes early to try to make it to the executive meeting for Quidditch club on time, I figured that I'd come in early to make up for it. Today would have to be the day when the Librarian on Saturday duty decided to open up exactly on time. Ten minutes standing around in the cold? Not my favorite thing to do, really.
Then, I actually do make it out of the library a few minutes early, enough to get over to Harpers in time to get a seat near where I can hear everything. Of course, I get there and realize I can't find my ID card anywhere. Gah. I was in a hurry yesterday trying to get food before I had to meet my ride down to the Shabbot service, and I figured I must have dropped my ID in my room instead of putting it in my purse. (Got the food, actually, but had to dump it in my room and run to make it to her car at the appropriate time. Luckily, they had a nice buffet after the service, I pigged out there in lieu of actually eating dinner.) So I run back to my room and tear it apart looking for the stupid little ID card. Can't find it anywhere. Lovely. I send off a penitent little e-mail to
ariadne_alecto, go to put my coat away, and feel the card inside the pocket. Why I hadn't felt it there when I looked there at first, I don't know, but there you have it.
So I run back to Harpers, and my being on time has turned into being about five minutes late. There's pretty much nothing good to eat, and I ended up missing out on part of the meeting. My own fault for being late, I know, but it was another irritation.
I calmed down a little when I made it back to my room for a while, and the rest of the day wasn't that bad, aside from no one showing up for the costuming club meeting.
Now I'm going to curl up in my room, eat the dinner I was supposed to have last night, and completely ignore the school dance tonight. I don't really want to deal with people, aside from online.
*still has to do sorting and reviews for several stories*
