Interview meme again. Leave your name as a comment, I'll ask you five questions, then post the answers back in your journal. (or as a comment here if you've just done this elsewhere.)

1. You are close with your family, and have, in recent times, made the transition to college, making daily contact with family a luxury. Taking that into account, how has it been having your dad on LJ? And would you recommend your mother ALSO take up blogging?

It's good to have Dad on lj, but for me it's more because this is a way we actually connect. I've always loved him, but there wasn't much that we really did together when I was younger, mainly because our interests were so different. (I was very much a young version of my mother, and when you combine that with a little girl's focuses and interests in general, we didn't have that much in common before I got old enough to geek out about things with him.) I also like that he enjoys the livejournal community for himself, and gets a lot out of it aside from being able to interact with me.

As for Mom, I'm not sure whether she'd really get as much out of it herself. Right now she seems to enjoy lurking and reading what Dad and I have to say more than actively participating. If she does ever join, I've got some friends I'd love to introduce her to, because I know they'd love her.

2. Your elder sister has impending nuptials if I'm not very much mistaken. Aside from the fact that you are probably thrilled for her, how does that make you feel about your own personal life? Does it cause you to reflect? Does it make you jealous? Do you look at her and say "Sucker!"?

Semi-impending, they're not quite engaged yet, (last I heard from home, anyway) and I think they're planning on a longish engagement. And while I am thrilled for her, I'm still a bit disconcerted at the concept of my sister with a significant other, just because it's such a change to think of her as being part of a couple.

As for my own personal life? I see her with him, and how much they fit with each other, and I know I want to be a part of a relationship like that someday. On the other hand, there's no one I know in real life that I've even considered in that light, and I'm not in any real hurry to get to that point. I'm happy for her, but I'm not ready to be where she is yet, if that makes any sense. I'm still more comfortable being me alone.

Besides, I know far too many people who have called dibs on testing any guy I date to want to inflict their planned tortures on any casual dates.

3. Describe to me a recipe that makes copious amounts of relatively easy-to-make, yummilicious food. It can be either main dish or desert, your choice.

Main Dish Crab Bisque (not as much copious, at least with the current recipe, but enough to feed four people without leftovers)

1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
3 Tbls butter
3 Tbls flour
1/4 tsp nutmeg
3 cups milk (start with less milk, about two cups, then add more if the soup looks too thick for your tastes)
1 bay leaf
crab meat (if, like me, you live inland and can't afford regular crab meat, the imitation stuff works well with this recipe)
2 cups cream (if you don't have cream, use about four oz of cream cheese [the brick kind, not the sprea]) softened with a bit of milk.)
salt & pepper to taste
4 Tbls sherry/cooking wine

1. Saute onion & celery in butter (I added in the wine here, it mixes well with the butter and it makes sure that the alcohol in the wine boils off.)
2. Add flour & nutmeg, mix thoroughly. You should end up with the onions and the celery clumping up in the flour.
3. Add milk, stirring in thoroughly. Start with a splash of milk, mix it in, then continue, you get less lumps that way than if you'd just poured all the milk in at once.
4. Then add in the bay leaf.
5. Let it cook & stir continually till the soup has thickened.
6. Add crab meat & cream, stir in well.
7. Heat through, but do not allow to boil or the soup will be grainy, not smooth.
7. Add salt & pepper.

Dessert Ginger Cookies oven 375

2 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp salt
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
extra sugar for rolling

Combine first six ingredients in a medium sized bowl & set aside
In a large mixing bowl cream the shortening. Gradually beat in the
sugar, eggs and molasses. Beat in the flour mixture.
Shape dough into balls & roll in sugar.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet & Bake at 350

For giant cookies make balls 2 inches & bake 11- 13 min.
For regular cookies make balls 1 inch & bake 8- 9 min.

4. 7/21/07. Big day. Will you buy the book and watch the movie? Which are you looking most forward to? What do you hope to find in each?

Yes to both, though I'm definitely looking forward to the book more. With the movie, I'm just hoping that they keep the main plot points and developments recognizable. With the book, I'm hoping that it's a satisfying read, where even if I don't like the specific events, I can accept them as what fit the storyline best.

5. You have several groups of friends on LJ. People from home, people from school, people from different LJ fandoms. Pick maybe 2 or 3 and pimp them. Tell everyone on your flist why they are awesome and why they should friend them.

This was the hardest question to answer. My friendslist is composed entirely of people who are awesomeness personified.

So, randomly, [livejournal.com profile] ljmckay. One of my longest online friendships is with lj, we met back on the NCIS special ops board and bonded quickly. She's incredibly sweet, intelligent, and has more creative talent in her pinkie than most people have in their whole bodies. She's a true friend, and someone I can talk to and debate things with and know that even if we disagree on every point in an argument, we can do so while still respecting each other and with no hard feelings at the end of the debate.

[livejournal.com profile] mamadeb. One of the sweetest women I've ever met online. She's got a very soothing and calming tone on many of her entries, I smile when I get to something she's written. She can also turn around and make me think things through and consider my assumptions faster than almost anyone else I talk to online. Plus, it's all her fault I ended up applying to H_E, I heard about it through her journal when I was just starting out in the lj world.

Yay new recipes! Can crab be replaced with chicken? I don't really like crab. And ginger bikkies squee!

Um.. Okay. Interview me, please?

The crab can probably be replace by chicken if you want. Just make sure that you cook the chicken thoroughly before putting it in the soup.

1. If you had a choice in the matter, would you prefer to travel in time or to alternate dimensions of earth, but stay at the same time?

2. What's your favourite and least favourite things about being in fandom?

3. I know it's been a big adjustment, moving from being with you family to being at college. What was the biggest culture shock for you?

4. You've got a free week, money is not an issue. What do you do?

5. Would you rather be loved for what you aren't, or hated for who you are? Why?

Seeing as we are newly acquainted, I thought I'd offer myself for questions, if there was anything in particular you'd like to know about me. :)

Thanks, I've been wanting to get to know you a little better.

1. I've seen you around [livejournal.com profile] hermionesviolin's journal, I think, but what prompted you to come over and friend me?

2. I noticed we're both very interested in religion, and that you're taking steps to become baptized. What's one thing that really drew you to Christianity? (Also, yay for inner-city diverse Episcopal churches! I so miss my home church when I'm here on campus.)

3. What's your beverage of choice on a cold day?

4. If you could change any one thing about your past, what would it be and why? Or would you choose to leave it as it was, because even the worst aspects of your history are part of what made you who you are today?

5. What did you want to grow up to be when you were younger?

Let's see how long I can make this ;)

1. Yes, I did find you via hermionesviolin. I think what prompted me was when she linked to some posts on being Episcopalian and your experience, and being a baby quasi-Episcopalian, I was intrigued and wanted to read more of your musings. I also used to be very into fannish things and write fanfic (with a different LJ name), so I was curious about your interests there too.

2. Hee, yes I'm a comparative religion junkie (and major)... What drew me to Christianity is a complicated question, since originally I would have said nothing! As you may have gathered from reading my journal, I was semi-practicing Judaism and seriously considering converting. The rabbi I'd talked to said before I did this, I had to explore Christianity more and work out my issues, so I started doing that and wound up falling in love with the local Episcopal/Lutheran campus ministry and St. Mark's Cathedral. So first it was the specific circumstances that drew me in--beautiful liturgy and amazingly kind people. From a more theological viewpoint, it was the emphasis on compassion, forgiveness, and total love/grace that began to appeal to me as I saw how these people acted and what kind of theology they based that on. It was a far cry from some of the bad experiences I'd had with Christianity growing up. Also, I realized that I kind of liked eating bacon. ;)

3. A spicy chai with milk, honey, and lots of foam!

4. Hmm...it's hard to pick any such events, even ones that I regret, because I don't know that I would have learned what I needed to learn if I hadn't had that experience. There was a certain bad parting that I had with a person which I regret and wish I'd handled differently, though I realize I did the best I could with information I had at the time. This probably isn't what you were looking for, but I really wish I could have started learning foreign languages earlier...and that I could have been a bilingual English/German speaker from birth, which didn't work out for a number of reasons

5. An Egyptologist/novelist. I don't know that I've changed that much since then. :D
