Okay, this is all Calvin's fault.

He started playing songs from Wicked at meetings, and now, even though I really hated the book, I'm playing the songs and getting them stuck in my head.

I'm going to be humming "Defying Gravity" for the next week.

Let's see, what else is going on in my life?

I got registered for next semester's classes, and made sure to schedule at least twelve hours besides Physics, so we won't get tripped up by that again. That's without my independent study, because the credits for that will be determined later. It's going to be a religion-intensive fall, I have three religion classes outside of that independent study, plus more Latin, and Physics again.

And I had a fun discussion today at my Marauder's meeting. For once I had actual people there, two of them, and I could help them with their projects. And while we were working, we ended up discussing and debating religion. Yeah, I know, like I don't do that often as is. But this was fun, discussing it outside of a class and classroom goals. *revels in being a religions geek*

P.S. Supernatural? I so did not need another fandom. Why did you have to tempt me with your fanfics and your interesting episodes? And why am I breaking with my long-held avoidance of cocky, arrogant guys and finding Dean more interesting than Sam? Hopefully, you remain one of my not-actively-fannish fandoms, and stop eating my brain soon so that I can go back to my other fandoms soon. Layren is probably wondering if her padawan has dropped off the face of the planet.

Wicked the book and Wicked the musical are pretty much entirely different environments. There's a similar vein of Elphaba and G(a)linda, but the story is very much different. I enjoy both (for different reasons) but I generally encourage checking out of musicals, even when one dislikes the books or movies they're based on. ;)

Even having only heard three songs, yeah, I can see the differences in the two. Wicked the musical's characters are much less irritating to me.

They have more heart in the musical than in the book, and to tell the truth, the entire plot has changed. I mean, it's sort of there, but yeah, two different beasts entirely.

Dean is the Haan Solo of Supernatural and Sam is Leia.

... No really.

Right, back to obscurity.

Sam's whinier than Leia ever was.

Okay, so he has reason to be whiny, what with the girlfriend dying and the whole not-liking-hunting bit, but still.

*is highly amused by this conversation*

Yeah, I think I'm going on hiatus from the boards for a while, till I manage to wrestle my brain back from SPN.

I've been meaning to reread Wicked for years now, so I doubt I can mount much of a defense of it given my poor memory, but I'm curious as to why you hated the book so much.

My main issue is that I'm a very character-centric reader. I have to have a character that I enjoy reading about in there, or I can't connect to the story at all. In the book, Elphalbia is about the only decent character to start out with, and she's so utterly different from me in mindset and views on life that half the time I disliked her. The rest of the characters I wanted to smack the entire time I was reading about them, so I couldn't bring myself to care about them or the plot of the book.

So while I'll grant that it's reasonably well-written, and an interesting take on the Baum books, I hated reading it.

Yay Wicked! *\o/* I'm a huge fan of both the book and the musical; I like the book more, but I definitely understand how it isn't everyone's cup of tea. None of the characters are exactly people you'd want to hang out with. : P Well, in the book at least - the musical is so radically different. I quite like Musical!Elphaba and Glinda. And ZOMG the songs! XD

Yeah, the characters are really my problem with Wicked the book. I'm so character oriented, and if I can't find a single character to like, it kind of limits the enjoyment I'll get out of the story.

From the sampling of his other writings that I've encountered, I think it's just something with how he views characters and people, because I've had this problem with all his books. He is not a writer that I can understand and enjoy, even if I do admit that he's got some talent.

that's the only problem with those wicked songs, you can never get them out of your head, and then you being to go insane. I liked the book, but I was in love with the musical. You should see it if you get the chance. I do believe you would like it. And now you're blaming calvin? I thought everything was supposed to be "blame lierin". Well, techinically, Lierin, Corey, Cindy and I went to see Wicked and told Calvin. So yes, you can blame Lierin for this too.

So I can blame Lierin for this as well? Happiness. Blaming Lierin is so much fun.
