Jun. 26th, 2007 11:22 pmIn addition to the other things we're working on with my sister's wedding, Mom and I are going to see about making her cake.
...That isn't as hard as it sounds, because luckily Elizabeth and John want a relatively simple marble cake, with Mom's icing and easy decorations. Our first try was a small version of a three layer marble cake, with cream icing and some green marzipan cut into ribbons and wrapped around the base of the layers.
It looked kind of like Scarlett O'Hara's green and white dress, actually, when it was done. And we had some problems with the first batch of marzipan we bought. See, it's supposed to be the consistency of play-dough, squishy with a bit of stiffness. Instead, it was the consistency of sandstone, with approximately the same flavor. Mom made a quick trip back to the store and grabbed a replacement that they tested out there.
Erm, we are quite possibly more excited about this wedding than Elizabeth actually is.
In non-wedding planning related news, I had more babysitting this evening. And I had to prove again that I'd pull the same punishments as their mother would. I really do not love limits-testing. I know it's important for the kids' development, and that they periodically do need to remind themselves what the rules are and that they haven't changed. But it's so exhausting while they're going through the process. It was only the one of them this time, the other two were relatively well behaved, so that was something, at least.

Date: 2007-06-27 04:25 am (UTC)I'll say. Admit it, you just wanted to have a cake and eat it too. But it's neat to hear that you guys aren't going the whole "let's go into debt for the wedding" thing. Although from what I know about your family that'd be incrediably unlikely.
Yay babysitting. At least you know the rational behind their behavior, next time hopefully all of them will be well behaved.
