I woke up this morning to the sound of a thunderstorm and two small animals having a very squeaky fight in our across-the-street neighbor's tree. Nice to know that my headache yesterday was right, and the pressure was changing.

Mom asked me yesterday if it felt any different being the only child. My answer was not really, just because there still are the kids in the house, so I'm still pulling the older sister duties a lot of the time. But the house feels emptier, even with toddlers underfoot.

I was just informed that I'm going to be co-teaching Ethics of Magic at H_H, and that should be interesting. Just glancing through the other teacher's userinfo, I think we'll get along alright. Remind me to contact her and start debating lesson plans and our teaching system if she hasn't contacted me by tonight?

Speaking of classes over at H_H, I really need to go and do the homeworks. I was going to do them, and then things got busy.

LJ Interests meme results

  1. biology:
The study of life. It forms part of my major, and it's been one of my major interests ever since my freshman year of high school, where I had a teacher who captured my interest and made me fall in love with the subject. Don't get me going on how awesome this subject is, or how cool various facets of evolution are, or I'll never shut up.
  2. cs lewis:
One of my favorite authors, and definitely my favorite Christian apologist. He's intelligent, insightful, and while I may argue with him on certain particulars, he's shaped a lot of my theology. Plus, he had a fantastic sense of humor and knew how to snark with the best of them. And he wrote The Chronicles of Narnia. This cannot possibly be bad.
  3. fairy tales:
I love them. I loved them as a child, and I love them now as I re-read them and read new stories based on them. They always capture my sense of fantasy.
  4. harry potter:
Like aproximately 85% of the population, I enjoy the books and the world JKR has created.
  5. luna lovegood:
Ah, Loony Lovegood. I love her independence and her creative insanity. I also love how she can be contented in herself, and is happy to be what she is, with or without other people's approval. She's me, only I'm a little more grounded and pragmatic. There are probably several people who think I'm just as insane as she is.
  6. mythology:
This goes right along with the fairy tales, I think. Mythology can tell us great truth, if it's not necessarily factual. And there is something wonderful and awe-inspiring about the myths of various cultures.
  7. proper spelling:
I don't believe in cutsy spelling mistakes or chatspeak. They give me headaches. As does frequent spelling errors on anything "published", even if it's only published on a fan archive. On the other hand, I know I don't remember to doublecheck my own spelling errors often enough when it's just on my journal.
  8. science:
What can I say, I'm a geek. I'm curious about how the world works, and science gives answers about that. That being said, I have a decided preference for the life sciences, mainly because I don't have the math skills to understand physics in-depth.
  9. stargate sg-1:
It's fun, it's got interesting characters and character dynamics, and it's not afraid to make fun of itself. I like this show a lot. And any show which has snarky naked aliens in it has to be pretty cool. Plus, this show spawned Stargate Atlantis, which regularly has me squeeing at a pitch to destroy bat eardrums.
  10. wesley/fred:
Probably my favorite pairing from Angel. This is quite possibly because those two characters were my favorites. I was very upset when Angel pulled a Babylon 5 on me and killed off my favorite character and left my second favorite character to live the rest of their life somewhat miserable.

You know you're a literature geek when, after you've been dicing beets for borscht, you start channeling Lady MacBeth while cleaning your hands.

Meantioning this to my mother had her commenting that at least it didn't look like blood. My response then proved that I'm also a sci-fi geek, as I pointed out that the fuschia color resembled Klingon blood. Add in the sour cream, and the illusion is complete.

By the way, [livejournal.com profile] sirutka, while I really appreciate you putting up the recipe for borscht, problems enter in when anyone else tries to follow it. You didn't include any measurements or proportions on anything! This makes it kind of difficult to repeat your recipe with any certanty unless someone's seen you cook it often enough.
