mari4212: calla lily against a black background (flower)
In my massage therapy course, one of the classes I took this quarter was Spa Practices. The final for that class was tonight. We had to write up a 90 minute long protocol for our ideal massage, and then do a practical version of that massage on a classmate.

Since there was an odd number of us in the class, our teacher stepped in to receive a massage. She's been doing this throughout the quarter, so that she can give us practical feedback on our techniques.

Guess who had her today, for the final? Yeah, that would be me. At about twenty minutes into the massage, I ended up scrapping my protocol to work specifically on her issues. This meant spending 45 minutes on the head, neck, and anterior chest, working an area I hadn't planned to work at all (the abdomen), spending about thirty minutes on the back, and scrapping massage of the limbs completely, aside from a minor amount of compression. It would have taken me another half hour at minimum to address the limbs properly in that massage.

And now comes the gleeing part of it: her comments at the end included the fact that I had great pressure and range of pressure, listened and communicated well, that my neckwork in particular showed great potential, and that I was on the way to becoming an excellent massage therapist. *glees* She also commented that my protocol was well written, with excellent terminology and detail.

I like those kinds of comments from a teacher. Get me out into the real world, and I'll really like those kind of comments from a client. It'll tend to mean they're coming back again.
