mari4212I haven't been updating as much as I should have. Then again, yesterday was so busy I didn't have time to update.
So, Thursday.
I have four out of my five classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thus, of course, making up for having only one class on Wednesdays.
Physics: I'm taking it this semester with several of the girls from biology, so that gives us an instant study group if needed.
Living World Religions: One of two religion classes I'm taking from Dr Oliver. This one is definitely going to be a squeeful class. Lots of interesting topics to go over, and a mix of people, so we're going to have interesting debates.
Ancient Christianity: On the one hand, I already know I'm going to be utterly fascinated by the subject, and I'm going to love learning about it. And Dr Ware loves the subject himself, which is always good to find in a teacher. On the other hand, he's told us that the Midterm is an 8-12 page paper that he'll assign the topic on a Thursday and collect on a Tuesday. Oh, and it overlaps with the Monday where I'll be taking my second Physics test. The one on rotations, ie, the one that killed my grade last time through? Erm, yeah. Not of the good.
Contemporary Theologies: My other Dr Oliver class. And definitely going to be a source of much joy and squeefulness as well. Just looking at the syllabus and the people we get to read, the issues we're going to address. Happiness, definite happiness. We're going to split into groups to do a small-group book discussion and presentation to the rest of the class on one of four areas of liberation theology later in the semester. The choices are: feminist, African-American, Asian, and South American. The African-American and Asian books are the ones that interest me most, with South American not far behind. I've already read things by Reuther before, and I've gotten exposed to several of the main feminist issues in religion in other classes. I want something I haven't learned before.
And those were my classes. I also had two hours at the library, and on the way back from the library learned that I'd missed our mandatory floor meeting on Wednesday because I hadn't seen the announcements about it until the next morning. So I ended up attending another floor's hall meeting. The one that stretched on for over two hours, though I was allowed to leave after an hour and a half of it.
Friday.
My head cold migrated from my sinuses into post-nasal drainage. Meaning I felt ten times better, but sounded ten times worse than I had before. My Latin teacher kept joking about the fact that my last words were going to be in Latin, in between ordering me not to die. I tried to convince him that my siblings sound worse than I do when they cough, but I don't think he believed me.
After classes were over I wandered out to see the vintage clothing store that's recently moved to nearby campus. Most of the stuff there is seventies/eighties, some of that truly terrifying, but it had some very pretty pieces, and some of those even had reasonable prices.
And I caught a ride down to Temple with a friend of mine from my Judaism class last year and her friend. We enjoyed it so much that we're planning on attending Shabbat services every Friday that we can. And the Rabbi seemed happy to see us there. He even gave us some of the extra books that he'd been cleaning from his library. (My friend's friend is a Philosophy major, so he gave her a stack of his old philosophy books. I got a Tillich book, which I think is great because I'm going to be studying him this semester in my Contemporary Theologies class.) And now I'm feeling slightly homesick, because the book I've got is on the old side, and it smells like old books, and it reminds me of home.

That is one of the best smells, isn't it? All of my mother's Lord of the Rings books smelled that way, so I now I associate that pleasantly-musty smell with hobbits and orcs and elves. ^_^

Now, the 70's & 80's - VINTAGE!!!! Oh my... Never quite thought of them that way but, I guess they were quite awile ago when you look at them in the context that they were 20 - 30 years ago - almost 40 years ago. Ouch!
