Because finals have dissolved my brain into so much goo and I can't remember all the details of my friend's latest plan to take over the world (besides it involving me in a push-up bra and a miniskirt), I give you a meme. Hopefully, this will be a good brain distraction for me.

Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions to the best of my abilities.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Available fandoms: Supernatural, Firefly, Doctor Who, NCIS, Star Trek, HP, Chronicles of Narnia. Any others that you know I like/have heard me mention more than in passing are also okay.

Kaylee from Firefly? (Yes, just getting into it finally.)

1) Gotta love Kaylee, it's required. Really, I think it's right there in the Browncoats handbook alongside memorizing Wash's dinosaur monologue.

Being serious for a moment, yeah, I really do love Kaylee as a character. She's just so refreshing, and was written to have such a good soul. She makes me smile, lots.

2) Hmm. It's hard to say, given how truncated the series is, how she would have been to the larger plotline. Given the episodes we have and the movie, I'd have to say that she's not an essential part of the arc, but that her being there made certain things more likely to happen. There's no way that crew would have bonded so tightly without her there, and given that one of the larger themes in any Joss show is inevitably the family you choose, I'd say she's pretty central for that theme of his, if not for the other plotlines.

3) I actually can relate to her very well, especially since there's a lot of the ways in which I think I take on her role with my friends. I'm the glue for some of my groups, and I'm definitely the one they all feel protective over. I'm also that insanely optimistic and cheerful, most of the time. It's easy for me to understand what she's thinking and going through, emotionally.

4) I wobble. I like Joss Whedon, and Firefly is my favorite of his works, but there's certain baseline assumptions about reality and people that go into his works that I'm not able to join in with. So while I squee over the episodes and love the writing to an insane extent, it's not one of my natural fandoms, and I tend to bounce in and out of thinking about it more so than I do with others.

5) I really do like the canon ship of Simon/Kaylee, but I love her interaction with all of the crew. I wouldn't ship her ever with River (because of consent issues that have me never shipping anyone with River), or Sheppard Book, Zoe, or Wash (because they've all made commitments that should not be broken). Conversely, I love her platonic interaction with River muchly, and would love to have seen more of it.

6) She gets taken captive/threatened to control others far more than any of the other members of the crew did. I think if the show had gone on longer, I would have liked to see her get herself out of trouble more. It's a problem of her arc not being one of the first ones to be explored, and Fox canceling, because I don't think Joss would have kept her at that level for forever. I actually love the fact that she's not a fighter, and that she's still respected and has her strengths, but I would have liked to see her get out of a problem because of her strengths, not just have Mal or River save her.

7) We're similar enough that we'd either get along fabulously, or not at all. I'd hope for the first.

8) Probably not my all-time favorites, but I'm not exactly sure who's on that list (I don't rank cross-fandom normally).

9) Quite probably. She's just too cute and sweet to not mention.

10) I'm not hugely into Firefly fandom, but I think she's at least reasonably well liked.

CAPTAIN JEAN-LUC PICARD. Patrick Stewart demands the enthusiasm of capslock from me. :) Or you could do Mal, if you prefer, since he's a captain too!
