And here I was going to try to do better about writing lj posts this year. Well, at least it hasn't been a whole month since my last post.

So, where to start? Hmm, perhaps my classes, since I've had all but one by now, and three of them twice.

Genetics: This is going to be a tough class, just based on the subject matter and the pace we seem to be beginning with. It doesn't help that our teacher has told us that we've all had the basics in Bio 107 and she expects us to know all that from the start. It's been three and a half years since Bio 107 for me, and while I do know most of it, I'm rusty. We had our first test over the review material on Friday, and I remembered most of it for that, but I got introns and exons mixed up, and I might have grouped out my amino acids from the wrong direction on the translation question. But once we get through the review stuff and into actually learning material, I think I'll do better. The other question is, am I ever going to stop having flashbacks to Dr. Ernsting in this class? Already I'm reverting back to talking about things in terms of happy vs. not happy, and if I'm not careful, I'll end up using the phrase "fully caffeinated" again.

Latin: This is the class that I knew the most about what it was going to be like going into it. It's pretty much just continuing the previous semester with a slight change in the class make-up. Right now it's even relatively easy, since we're translating sections out of the Vulgate. The gospel of Luke has the advantage of being very familiar, and so I just have to keep reminding myself to double-check and make sure that what I'm writing comes out of the Latin text, not my current Bible which translates out of the Greek. We'll slow down again once we get back into Cicero.

Theology and Story: This has so much potential to be fun, and I'm loving it so far. I haven't had a Stein class in over a year, and this semester I get two. We're going to be doing a lot of readings, and a hefty amount of writing as well, but I think I'm going to get a lot out of it. If nothing else, I'm gaining an appreciation for Buechner from the first book we're reading of his.

Origins and Effects of Modern Technology: My senior seminar, and I really lucked into this one. We've only had one class for it, but what we've done so far is excellent. It's going to be part history, part science, and part cultural anthropology, from what we've discussed so far, so I'm in love. Again, it'll be a lot of writing, but it'll be fun while I'm doing it.

And those are four of my five classes. I've got a once a week religion class which will meet for the first time on Tuesday, so I'll report on that one when I get it.

What else has been going on? Well, there was a SCA event on Saturday which my Medieval Society hosted. Sadly, I was rather out of it, my birthday cold hit a few days late and peaked yesterday. I scooted out of the event before the dancing started, which tells you how tired I am, because I love to dance. But the day wasn't a total wash. My roommate, who is also the secretary for Medieval Society, was awarded an Award of Arms for the work that she's put into liaising with the local SCA, and I got to clap and cheer for her. Frankly, she deserves it, and I was so glad the SCA did it for her. She puts in hours of work that she doesn't technically have to do, and oh boy, am I glad I have her. I'm going to have to talk with the other exec board members about getting her something at the end of the semester to thank her for all her work in addition to what the SCA did.

Wow. Okay, that went long.
