Jan. 17th, 2008 03:09 pmRight, so I still clearly fail at writing posts on a regular basis.
On the bright side, I definitely hit it on the nose when it came to predicting how this semester was going to be. I think I'm going to drown in work, but I'm definitely going to enjoy my classes. Even if Tuesdays are going to kill me dead with a three hour evening course on prophets after a genetics lab.
Outside of classes and the "oh crap, how many papers do I have to write this week" feelings, I've been having fun with my birthday present. I asked my parents to order me some BPAL fragrances, because I figured I'd heard so much about them and I do like, as my family puts it, stink pretty things.
Miskatonic University: I ordered this one thinking I'd smell it once and then probably hand it over to my sister, because it sounded like something she'd love. Erm, not likely. I fell in love with this scent five seconds after I swabbed my wrists with a drop, and spent a good part of the day figuring out excuses for my hands to be near my face so that I could continue to smell it. It goes from straight Irish coffee to coffee with a hint of books on me, and was definitely happiness inducing.
Chimera: Sweet, spicy, and then into pure yum. I can't break it down into components as easily as I could Miskatonic, but this is another one that made me grin.
Alice: I really smelled the carnation for the first five minutes, and then it settled into something light and sweet and comforting, sort of a honeyed tea.
Mouse's Sad and Long Tale: So, err, I really like the comfort scents, because I loved this one too. Starts out lightly floral, then fades into a vanilla mixed with something, and again, very happy on me. I wish the real mouse that keeps visiting our room smelled half as good.
Marie: Very strongly floral, and it didn't settle down easily. I'll try this one later on, when I can keep a window open while I'm trying it, but it's not as much my tastes as the others. If I could dilute the scent down, I think I'd enjoy it more. As it is, it's just too strong right now.
Dana O'Shee: Almondy, and then the honey kicks in and like Alice, it turns into sweet and comforting, but rather light.
Those were the ones we ordered. The lab threw in three freebies, which surprised me. I mean, I'd heard about free imps being added, but not that they would give you an extra half an order of imps.
The Scales of Deprivation: I had this on yesterday and I'm bouncing back and forth on it a lot more than I did the others. It's an interesting scent, and I could really smell out the lavender and frankincense. It also went really strong on me, and I had to wash my wrists, which cut the scent down by half and made it much easier to carry off.
Fruitcake: I've got this one on now, actually. It starts out smelling like cherry, but not cough medicine cherry, which is good. After a while it moves into something almondy and cakey. Not my favorite, but wearable.
Mata Hari: I haven't tried this yet and I'm almost afraid to. In the bottle, it smells strongly floral and I have a feeling it's going to be as overpowering as Marie was. I'll wait on opening it until the weather cooperates with me keeping a window open more than a smidgen.
And ironically, being so busy with classes has jumpstarted the drabble-writing part of me. Or at least, I'm using drabbles as a break from papers on Buechner's view of the Gospel and the significance of the New Moon in Amos. So help me out, and give me drabble ideas? NCIS, Narnia, Firefly, or SPN by preference, and the usual one to two word prompt.
