Sep. 13th, 2008 09:58 pmAnd I'm back.
The retreat...had it's ups and downs. I knew going into it that it was primarily going to be a planning retreat, and that most of what we were going to be doing there was discussing what we wanted to do on future retreats. That's actually why Mom, Elizabeth, and I decided to only stay for one night. And we did get some definite progress made as far as the planning went. It's just, everything we decided could have been done with in about an hour or so if we'd just pulled three people out of the planning and let the rest of us get on with it. Those three people, on the other hand, were talking at each other in circles all last night and all of today. Not even talking to each other, for the most part, but talking at each other and past each other. And so the conversation had a tendency to circle ad nauseum over the same basic decisions that we'd made hours earlier. At one point this afternoon, I had a mini-introverted-freak-out and had to flee the room for a while, just because it was so exhausting dealing with those three. Each woman is lovely on her own, but when you put the three of them together and ask them to plan something, it's awful.
On the other hand, we lucked into a beautiful retreat center at the Convent of the Transfiguration. There were some lovely walks worth taking through the grounds, and a four-seater swing built into a gazebo that Mom and I loved. We did manage to pray the hours, even if we couldn't do it with the nuns because of time issues. And the nuns fed us quite well on both of the meals they were serving, which is a definite plus.
