Mar. 19th, 2009 02:55 pmYesterday was one of the days when I was very glad that my life mostly revolves around school, church, and helping Mom out at home.
Because not having a very active social life means that when one of my closest friends is in town for an appointment with her endocrinologist, she could call me up at one, ask me if I was interested in hanging out, and I didn't even have to think about saying no. I could just drop everything, tell my brother to keep an eye out for a kidlet who was due to get dropped off, and spend the afternoon with my friend.
So we had lunch and wandered around a vintage store looking at the various dresses, had gelato at the shop in town that actually makes gelato that tastes like the stuff you get in Italy (
lady_tigerfish, it's moved from the Oregon district to the row of restaurants next to UD), wandered up to show her where the cemetery was so she knows where to look for it later, since she's researching tombstone symbology, and visited Half-price Books. Half-price Books was a very good place to visit, as both of us found a few books that we were interested in getting. I bought Anatomy for the Artist for my brother, since he's planning on doing a few anatomical sculptures as part of his Div 3 project. I picked up Stephen Jay Gould's The Mis-Measure of Man for myself, since it's probably my favorite of his books and I wanted a personal copy.
We're planning on heading out to Yellow Springs on Saturday and visiting all the little artsy shops up there.
And in the evening, I tagged along with my brother, my sister, and my brother-in-law to go out to the Pub, as something of a sibling celebration for my brother's birthday and him now being legally able to drink. Elizabeth introduced him to her favorite beer, which she loves because it has bourbon in it. I was the one sitting there drinking Sprite, because alcohol and I are non-mixy things, especially when I'm supposed to be sitting on a bar stool and talking, instead of immediately going horizontal. Feel free to mock my lack of alcohol tolerance, everyone does.
