Jun. 26th, 2009 09:43 amBecause I am, in fact, a lemming:
Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.
Available fandoms include the Joss Whedon canon, Doctor Who, Torchwood, NCIS, JAG, Narnia, Harry Potter, Star Trek (TOS, TNG, Voyager, and the new movie) X-Men Movieverse, Star Wars and anything else you've heard me talking about that I'm forgetting to list here.

Date: 2009-06-26 06:22 pm (UTC)Two, this is one of the only fandoms where I really don't see the slash pairings. I mean, most other fandoms, even if I don't actually ship, I can see where other people get it. But for Firefly, none of the slash pairings fit for me.
Three, I can't pair River with anyone unless something drastic changes in regards to her brain. I seriously can't see her as capable of consent until she's a lot more mentally healthy.

Date: 2009-06-26 07:41 pm (UTC)I agree with your other two points, as well. None of the male characters have that kind of chemistry. The only female characters who even come close are Inara and Kaylee (and I had to think about that), and I see that as more of a sisterly relationship.
I could potentially see River in a relationship post-Serenity, only because the end scene seems to indicate that she's starting to heal, but I think it would have to be a several-years-in-the-future thing, with some explicit mention of her healing process. And not with anyone actually in the crew at the time of the series; there's too much baggage there.

Date: 2009-06-26 09:19 pm (UTC)This. I mean, I love each of the characters and their actors individually, and I love the chemistry they all have as a group, but really. There wasn't one Chinese actor that could have done an equally amazing job?
Or, if we're going with the 'that chemistry just can't be messed with', there weren't any really good Asian actors available for guest stars?

Date: 2009-06-26 09:26 pm (UTC)1. I really couldn't care less about Spike. He never really interested me as a character.
2. Willow was a lot more interesting as a geek with some magical skills than as either super-wicca or addicted to magic.
3. Buffy as a character is more interesting outside of a romantic relationship, when she's concentrating on being a friend rather than being a girlfriend.
4. I kind of like Willow/Giles as a pairing, but there's only a few very narrow windows where it works without being squicky or dismissing Tara. That being said, I have no issue with it displacing Kennedy, because she made little to no sense to me for Willow.

4. You know, I've never thought of Willow/Giles before... strangely it does not squick me out the way even the thought of Buffy/Giles does.

Date: 2009-06-27 02:22 am (UTC)2. Snape had a hard life, and needed help he never got, but that never gave him the right to take out his anger on a child.
3. Two of my favorite scenes in the entire series occur in the fifth book (Neville's parents and Molly's boggart). I'm still not a major fan of the book as a whole, but those scenes rose above the rest.
4. Sirius? Not that cool, really.

Date: 2009-07-02 12:43 am (UTC)2. Jenny could have been a great director, although I agree that her father-revenge-bit messed her character arc up.
3. I'm just as happy for the producers to never get any more explicitly shippy than they are right now. This is a good level of hints and banter.
4. Jimmy is adorable and I always want to cuddle him.
5. Vance also has some cool bits, and I'd prefer for him to not be evil.

3. I agree!
4. lol
5. I never understood the episode with the boxer-guy...
