Jul. 29th, 2009 05:14 pmThis is still not the all-inclusive post about everything else I've been meaning to write.
Instead it's focused on one area which has been taking up an increasing amount of my energy the past week and a half.
On health, or why I am actually a Victorian lady in disguise.
So, in the event that you don't remember/weren't around for my last round with this, I have a disorder that causes my blood pressure to drop pretty drastically, often without warning. When my blood pressure plummets like that, I'll have what we've termed a dizzy spell, which typically involves me feeling very light-headed, weak, and like I'm going to fall over if I'm anything other than absolutely flat on some solid surface. In the past, it's ranged from my having a dizzy spell every other day, when we were first diagnosing this condition, to going over a year without an incident (see most of college).
Since Sunday before last, I've had four dizzy spells, with the Sunday one being more like the ones I had the spring of my senior year, were I wasn't able to walk across the room without being exhausted from one of them. I'm on a medication for them, and the Monday after that Sunday dizzy, we doubled my dosage. Even through the double dosage, increasing my salt intake, and pushing fluids, I've had three dizzy spells. Yesterday's attack happened while I was at the doctor's office, so he was finally able to observe one while it was ongoing, instead of seeing only the aftermath. Apparently, when my blood pressure drops, my heart rate doesn't increase to compensate for the loss of pressure.
We still don't know what's triggering these. Or why they've suddenly gotten worse after being mostly under control for years. I'm going in to see a cardiologist in about a month's time, and hopefully he'll be able to figure out something more. As it is, when I'm having the dizzy spell I'm rather incapable of doing anything, and I'm exhausted for the day after, so it's taking a lot out of me just to do what I need to do in real life, much less talk online. So if I continue to be rather out of it for a while, that's probably why.
