I have not looked for or seen any spoilers for tonight's episode. Having said that, if you haven't seen the most recent US episodes of NCIS, you probably don't want to click and get spoiled with my speculation. I just wanted to get this down before the episode aired, and then see how close I was, and what my guesses are from here.

[Unknown site tag]I'm pretty much expecting the female lead agent of the other team is going to either die or be permanently disabled in this coming episode. They've set her up as being basically canon fodder, and she's in a threatened spot coming in. Chalk one more female character into being fridged on this show. Although, at least on NCIS, she, like Kate and Jenny, will have a chance to go down in a firefight where she was armed and fighting back. That's better than many shows do with their female deaths by plot device.

But the other reason why I'm pretty sure she's going to be leaving NCIS tonight is simple. They've been building up to Tony taking a promotion back up to team lead this entire season. We've had a lot of call-backs to his time as team lead, as well as the fact that he turned down Rota to stay and help Gibbs get back to 100%. We've seen his backstory develop. Moreover, it's about time, character-wise, for him to move upwards. His character's role has been stalled for the past few seasons, because he's been so much Gibbs' second. He needs to advance, and so do McGee and Ziva.

So, my speculation for next season is that they'll start showing both teams, Gibbs' and Tony's. That lets us keep the characters present and interacting, will let Gibbs act as a mentor in a different way to Tony, and let all of the characters be challenged by new roles within the team, but still be together in some way.

Though, if Tony inherits this second team, they need to get another female agent in his new team. NCIS has done a good job with several of its female characters, and the team will need at least one woman on it. And I will actually have to learn the other agents' names.

Edited Post-ep:

So, erm, not great on the predictions there. EJ is gone, and Tony is getting a new responsibility, but it's not a new team. Darn it. However, this undercover thing looks interesting. If nothing else, it's going to force Vance and Tony to work together, which could prove interesting and illuminating.
