Christmas wishlist
Oct. 25th, 2005 02:33 pmI grabbed this from
aelora, and thought it sounded good. I like the idea of this spreading around my flist, maybe I can give someone something.
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My list
1. More good fanfic by people on my flist. Especially McKay/Weir in Atlantis, as there is just not enough there.
2. Thud, by Terry Pratchett. It's the newest of the Ank-Morpork City Watch books, and I really want to read it.
3. My own copies of the Steve McDonald CDs, especially Legend.
4. Patience. I need more patience with the people in my life. Failing that, lots of tea.
5. Something pretty. Online or offline, just something that is beautiful that I can look at and enjoy.
6. A note from someone, anyone, telling me what it is that they like about me. This never fails to brighten my day.
7. Pretty hair sticks to hold a bun up with. Preferably not plastic, as they tend to break easily.
8. An icon, made with me in mind. I don't really care what the subject matter is, though if you want inspiration, check out my interests.
9. A paid livejournal account, though this is low priority, as I mainly want it for the extra icons.
10. To meet some of you face to face.
If you want to send me something physical, you can always e-mail me for my address.

Hey, now that I can do! Don't know how good it might be, but I'll try. And you get to be the first to see it, too!
(It pleases me to no end that you want something I can, at least in part, provide.)

Date: 2005-10-26 01:30 am (UTC)I tried to put a few things up that I knew people on my flist could do well. You were the one I was thinking of with that one.
And it is so much fun to know you can do something that will make a friend happy. I've already set in motion the only thing I can do for

If you're ever anywhere in New England for any reason, just let me know when and where you plan to be here. We'll find a Starbucks or something nearby and I'll meet you there and buy you the beverage of your choice.
