Life update
Jan. 14th, 2013 03:44 pmThis is a few days after I had planned on writing it, but there you go.
About a week and a half ago, my uncle called, saying that my aunt was going in for carpal tunnel surgery and they could use someone to come and help out, especially with taking care of her mother while my aunt healed. (This is my mother's brother and his wife, not the ones I was living with last year.) I agreed, especially since my uncle offered to pay me for helping out. Apparently, he thinks anyone who volunteers to help out with his mother-in-law is bucking for sainthood. So for the next month or so, I'll be in the Maryland/DC adjacent area.
I got in to Maryland this past Thursday, and my aunt went in for surgery on Friday. Mostly I've not been doing much, aside from cooking dinners and some physical care of my aunt's mother. So far my one complaint is that we're out in the middle of a few farms, so there's not really any place I can go for walks that isn't walking directly on the street. So far my aunt's mother has been reasonably easy to care for, as she's been pleasant to me. I can see where she'd get at my aunt though, in terms of not all that subtle guilt trips, but she doesn't really have the right hooks for me for that to work.
On the plus side, one of my oldest friends,
reenchantress, is living close by, and I'll have a chance to see her pretty soon.
reenchantress, prepare to be tacklesqueed. I have missed seeing you in person.
The other bit of news is in regards to an interview. I had applied for Episcopal Young Adult Service Corps, which is relatively new, but the Episcopal church's version of Peace Corps. I heard back from them right before I left Dayton, with the news that they would be flying me down to Florida for a long weekend to talk with the heads of the various different programs as part of a "mutual discernment process". I'm crossing fingers, but the fact that they're the ones arranging flights is a good sign.
