Sara update (again)
Feb. 5th, 2013 10:10 pmAs of the last time I talked with my mother, Sara is continuing to improve. She's still in the ICU and will be until further notice, but her oxygen stats are improving, as is her blood pressure, and the antibiotics are doing their job, albeit slower than my parents would like. Being Sara's parents, they would have preferred this fixed five seconds after she first got sick, and still would have considered that too slow.
Apparently the doctors and nurses are all being excellent and explaining everything well to Mom. Our family pediatrician, who is no longer Sara's primary doctor, but still does a lot with her, has been coming in to visit every day and talking with Mom about how Sara is progressing. His last comments, as passed on to me, is that Sara is looking a lot less stressed/tensed than she was before.
The ICU doctors are keeping her knocked out, which is for the best for everyone. For those of you who don't know, Sara is mentally about one year old, and while she's the sweetest thing ever, she would not be able to understand that the tubes going into her need to stay put and not be tugged at. When she no longer has multiple IV lines plus something in pretty much every available orifice, they'll stop sedating her. And this way she sleeps through the worst part of feeling sick.
I have my interview in Florida this weekend, and after that I'll be doing a flying trip back to Dayton for about a week and a half. Hopefully, Sara will be feeling better and out of the hospital before I leave.
