Home again
Feb. 12th, 2013 11:19 pmI've now been home for a day. I felt immediately at home, I spent both yesterday and today getting to hold small children who didn't feel all that well. One and a half with a head cold = miserable and willing to spread it around with a large shovel.
I also got to see Sara at the hospital last night. She was apparently improved, they took out the bi-phased respirator for a lower-stress one, and they had her on a diuretic to pull some of the excess fluid out of her system, so she was apparently a lot less puffy from edema than she has been. She was semi-sedated, but she was aware enough to be blinking and orienting on Mom and me. I told her all about this weekend spent at discernment, and everyone I'd met in Florida, and she got very indignant with me any time I stopped talking for more than thirty seconds. Mom got a good rundown of everybody involved in the weekend and a good bit about what we talked about for discernment over the course of that hour I was talking to Sara.
Following up on this weekend, they asked each of us to e-mail in and tell them whether we thought we were suited to spending a year in mission-work. I forced myself to give it a full day back home and talking with family, but, as with most of my major decisions, I made my choice by gut reaction the first full day of the weekend, and have been busy the past four days figuring out why I made the choice. The ball is now in their court, so we'll see what happens next. I should have a conditional yes or no by the end of February (conditional because I'll then have to pass a background check and psych screening, but I've made it through every background check so far, and I haven't murdered anyone since my last screening).
