You guys, teaching a post-college course where everyone is interested and wants to be there is so much easier than high school.
...I had my first class with the Lay Institute on Monday. It was mostly about setting our expectations and introducing ourselves, and I'll probably have to repeat some of it when our other students arrive, but it was so much fun. I did not want the class to end.
Also, stopping to define what science is, what the scientific method is about, and what the heck is a theory in science? Definitely the right move. No one in the class knew all of those well enough to define what they meant by them, and everyone thought theory = hypothesis.
In other somewhat glee-inducing news, one of the students at the high school is writing a feature article about me for the school newspaper. Sir Jordan, who runs the newspaper, had me read it first to make sure I approved. Guys, I think I turned about twelve different shades of red while reading it, it was that sweet and complimentary. I'm going to ask permission to post it on my official blog, because it's a nice perspective from one of the students I teach instead of my perspective on teaching. The title of the piece is: "Red, the Color of Love."
Not much clue yet what I'm going to do for Christmas, as YASC-reunion plans didn't come together. I'll probably ask Padie Alyse or Ma'am Rouilla if I can have Christmas dinner with them. Skype-calling the family and having Dad read The Littlest Angel will happen, though.
