Well, I'm back at school again. Right now I'm checking grades, schedule, and flist.

I passed everything, although my GPA took a bit of a hit. Luckily, my first year ended with a high GPA, so as long as I am more careful this semester, it should be okay.

My room is in the process of being set up again. I reorganized some things, and we'll see how long that lasts. I've also figured out where everything but the tv can go if I get a roommate. If I do get one, I'll probably head down to the dollar store and grab a cheap table or some such thing.

The ear doesn't hurt, aside from a few mild twinges, so yay for that.

And I finished my knitting toy on the car ride. It is pretty and soft.

Lunch with the geeky guy and Dad went well. We went out for chinese and they talked to each other. I even let Dad tell the Bishop Tutu story. And Dad managed to figure out how to save Legend to my music files, so I have Steve McDonald to listen to. Glee.

Wow, he's meeting your Dad already? Serious... ;D

Glad you made it back to school okay and passed everything! That's always a plus. And the ear, good that that's feeling better.

Aside from the TV placement issue, do you want a roommate? I mean, obviously it depends on the person, but do you tend to like the company or is it a distraction? *is weirded out by own curiosity*

Dad wanted to meet geeky guy because he's a friend of mine, nothing more. Get your head out of the sewer and back into the gutter where it belongs young lady!

The main reason I want a roommate is to avoid making my parents pay for a single room, because it cost a lot. I've had a lot of bad experiences with my roommates, so if it didn't cost so much I'd love to have a room of my own.

And hey, curiosity is always good.

Twasn't in the sewer at all! I happen to think it's sweet. (And, frankly, if you do end up going out with him, better for your dad to meet him this way than as a potential suitor.) But yes. Very nice Dad could meet your friends.

Ah, okay. That makes much sense. Thank you!

I'm biased two different ways here:

1) I married someone who was a good friend first, and became a good friend when neither of us even imagined that we would date. Friendship first is IMHO the best way to start and maintain a relationship.

2) I have such a high opinion of both of my dating-aged daugherts that I can't understand why any decent guy wouldn't be attracted by their intelligence, common sense, basic decency and stunning good looks.

*blushes* No more effusive compliments in my journal. It makes me blush far too easily.

Single rooms cost more than doubles? Damn. Does your school give you people apartment housing or something? I don't think I've ever heard of a school not charging a flat rate for on-campus housing.

No, most of the rooms are standard dorm rooms, but since it would be the same room that I have as a double, if there isn't two people in the room they're loosing money out of it. Therefore, if you want a single, you pay room and a half. Various different dorms cost different amounts as well, depending on the amenities offered.

There is one dorm that has apartment style rooms available, but they're for Juniors/Seniors and cost a lot.

Wow. Since you can't necessarily control why a roommate moves out (say she has a medical emergency or something) it feels unfair to me, though yes I can to some degree understand (ditto charging more for amenities).

Well, if it's early in the semester they let you try to find another roommate first, and it's only if you can't get one from the list they give you and they don't assign you one from the others who also didn't find a roommate that you have to pay extra. And if it's later in the semester, they let you keep the room, but I think that has to be if your roommate leaves after the middle of the semester. Last time I went through this rigmorale I found a roommate, but I had to switch dorms by myself, which means that I had to move all of my books over in one night. This year, I'm refusing to move, but I'll accept anyone they put with me.
