I am not allowed to complain about the kids for a week.

On Friday, my sister called up wanting to know if I'd babysit for one of her employees, a last minute thing. I agreed, and ended up working today, babysitting from 8:30-5:30 today. Two toddlers, ten hours. And while the girls were sweet, they'd never heard of this concept we call discipline. I mean, they didn't even understand what time out was! An unknown number of temper tantrums, confiscated toys, shouting one or the other of their names, and unexpected moments of sweetness later, I'm amazed I'm still concious.

And then I got home and Mom took pity on me, giving me some of the chocolates I buy to keep her from killing the kids, getting me something to drink when I sat down, and doing the dishes for me when it was my job tonight. I really do love my mother.

I was going to work on my Philosophy paper, but I'm wiped. I'm only up for fluff. Anyone have something to rec for me? I'm afraid if I try to sort anyone for H_E I'll lose my patience and squib them for things I normally wouldn't mind.

Discipline is so important. If there's one thing I can not stand, it's parents who don't discipline their kids at all. "No" is a word that children need to hear from time to time, and using it does not make you "mean" or "the bad guy". I wish more parents understood that, because nobody likes a spoiled brat. The only thing worse might be a grown-up spoiled brat who thinks that they are simply entitled to whatever they want and have no manners or sense of empathy. Gah.

I agree completely. I grew up with a mother who didn't let us get away with anything, and I'm so grateful for that in my daily life.

And I'm planning on being the meanest mommy around when I have kids. Nap times and time outs and loss of privleges and reasonable limits. If you teach it to them young, it works for the rest of your life.
