Planning and preparations for Young Adult Service Corps are proceeding apace. If you don't remember/weren't here for my squeeing a few months back, Young Adult Service Corps is pretty much the Episcopal Church's take on Peace Corps. They send 18-30 year olds out for a year of service/mission work in partnership with Anglican dioceses around the world.

I now know that I'll be heading to the Southern Philippines, most likely to work as a teacher in the diocese-run school in Upi. Which, yay. There's also a chance that they'll stick me at the agricultural center working on farming techniques, which would be less of a yay. Still potentially useful work, but not my main cup of tea.

Things which have been done for YASC:

Set up blog (www.serviceandstories.blogspot.com) if you're interested in reading. That will be my official blog while in YASC service. This will continue to be my unofficial place to rant and ramble about life, and to bounce about fandom.

Started fundraising, at least one quarter of the way there! I also have online fundraising set up through my parish church, at christepiscopal.com. Click on the button marked donate, and in the comments box put either Margaret or Young Adult Service Corps.

Gone through the Episcopal Church's take on sexual harassment/child abuse prevention training. Which mostly reproduced all the information I've taken at the last three or four child abuse prevention trainings, but with an emphasis on the church setting.

Checked out movies to watch as part of the cultural awareness prep work we're supposed to do before our training at the end of June.

Begun stockpiling yarn/patterns to take with me as a sanity preservation/knitting supply in country.

Begun preliminary whimpering at picking out books to take halfway across the planet, and how many will be staying behind. I am kind of glad I did pick up that nookbook, it will save me some packing space.

Contemplated buying stock in a sunscreen company, with how much I'm going to go through that close to the equator.
