May. 4th, 2006 06:49 pmAs I was walking down to the library this morning, the heel of my sandal broke off. I managed to walk the rest of the way to the library, and I planned on spending a few hours there and then telling Mom about it when I returned.
Then by brother's school called, telling Mom to go get her kid, he's sick. Rather than take three small children and load them into the back of the car, Mom called the library and told them to send me home. I ended up just taking off both of my shoes and walking home barefoot rather than deal with the hassle of the one sandal's heel.
So after lunch, when the kids were down for their naps, Mom took me shopping for a new pair of sandals. And in the middle of the store we ran into an old friend of mine. She had been a part of the same religious dance group I'd been in during high school. I do believe I was the only member of that group under the age of forty. Still, it was nice to see her again.

Date: 2006-05-05 03:09 am (UTC)We went to South Africa on vacation about a year and a half ago. We landed mid morning and checked into our hotel in Cape Town. We had the rest of the day to walk around and explore before we had a flight to go on Safari for 3 days. Not 10 minutes out of the hotel, my Imitation Tivas snap...
The SAME pair that survived 3 years of walking backwards as a tour guide, 4 years of bike riding, the odd track workout when I brought cleats instead of running shoes to practice, and general mischief and mayham since I was a senior in high school. Fortunately, our hotel was only about a quarter mile from the major touristy shopping pier, and that was generally where we were headed anyway, so I was able to hobble out and buy my current pair of Imitation Tivas. Pretty good price too. But yeah, when you are 8 time zones and a full hemisphere away, it's a bit of a bummer to lose your shoes.

Date: 2006-05-05 08:54 pm (UTC)I think that shoes are slightly possessed. It's the only possible explanation for why they always break at the most problematic times.
...and now you see why I don't have many pairs of shoes. They're evil.
